Jake Sullivan – President of Kingdom Hoops visit HCI

Jan. 1, ’10: Jake Sullivan – President of Kingdom Hoops, visionary for Project: Ghana visited Cape Coast along with his wife to meet the children of Hoops Care International program. The visit which was highly anticipated by the children, saw a large crowd of them in attendance awaiting Jake and Janel. Upon their arrival, Jake and Janel met with Directors of HCI to learn more about the ngo and its projects. They than left for the Cape Coast Castle briefly while things were put in motion for Jake to take the kids through some fundamental basketball drills. Upon their return 15 minutes later, the children and some junior players were taken through ball handling and foot work section. Although it was plan for an initial 30-40 mins, the mini clinic took a little over an hour as both Jake and the children were all enjoying the process. At the close of the day Jake talked to the kids about the importance of bettering their skills and informing them that they are the future of Ghana Basketball. He also told the junior players to help the children grow in the game by assisting them with the basic skills. Jake and Janel promised to work closely with HCI and the children of Ghana. At the end of the clinic a group photo was taken and thee children bid farewell to Jake and Janel. Long after they had left, the children were still on the court practicing the drills and playing pickup games among themselves. We strongly believe that the visit of Jake and Janel has greatly inspire the children and will go a long way in their life. Jake and Janel were accompany to Cape Coast by Mark Agbo of Vikings Basketball Academy in Accra.

Armah debuts with double-double

Daniel Armah, 6′ 6″ G/F, played his first game for Casper College. In 19 minutes off the bench he recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds. Armah was the first recruit of the Runhouse-Hoops Project. The staff of Runhouse and the coaches at Cape Coast Hoops have full confidence in Armah’s success.

Emi Bassaw tops New England Recruiting Report

Emmanuel Bassaw, the 6’9″ power forward is presently toping the 2011 prospect list of the New England Recruiting Report. This report is release periodically naming the top players from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. After the summer camp, Emi was listed among the top 20 of his age group in Texas.  The player in a telephone conversation with some of his Hoops team mates stated that they should not take their training lightly. He explains that he trains three times a day and doesn’t  rest. He also stated that he can presently do a one hand windmill as well as a under-leg slams. This was a welcome news as many saw him trying hard to perfect it while still in Ghana. We will post some videos and photos of him in the nearest future.

Hoops thrashed Ghana Fire Service 69 – 53

Cape Coast Hoops on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 won against the Ghana Fire Service team 69-53. The game is in continuation of the Greater Accra Armature Basketball League which was played at Lebanon House, Tudu Accra. Highlights of the day saw two dunks from Saykan Bestman and a monster dunk from Michael DadsonThe game was a must win for Hoops who had earlier lost to the braves of CEPS and Yotive  the week before. Hoops lost to Yotive 70-67  and on Sept. 10 lost to Braves of Ceps 101-63. The match against Ceps was a very physical one which saw two Hoops players sustaining cuts they receive from the CEPS players. With the victory against Fire, the team now has two wins and three defeats. Players in the team are confident of wining their remaining matches against Police, Wizards, Flames, and Warrior to make it for the playoffs. Presently  some of the players on on camp in Cape Coast training for the match against Police this coming Saturday. Fans should expect nothing less than  massive victories in the remaining matches.

Ingmar Snabilie arrives in Cape Coast

Basketball in Cape Coast has been boosted with the arrival of Ingmar on the 29th of August. The young Dutch player was excited to be in Cape Coast and wasted no time by being on the court a few hours after his arrival, Saturday morning. The newly formed U14 players we very excited to see their new coach. After introduction, both the senior, junior and U14 all had a hectic workout. Even the rain could not lower their spirit as they practice hard on the various drills given by Ingmar. At the end of the practice section which lasted for four hours, every player was glad that their game will be at a next level pretty soon. Ingmar himself was fascinated with quick catch-up of the U14 kids most of which were learning the game for the first time. We will keep you updated on his progress here in Ghana.

Hoops defeat Wizards in Cabalan Tournament

Cape Coast Hoops yesterday defeated Tudu Wizards 59-56 in the ongoing Cabalan Thome Memorial Basketball Tournament at Lebanon House, Accra. Hoops who earlier lost to CEPS in their first game and than to Police in a second game had to prove to the skeptics that they are a team still in contention for the league title. The game was highlighted by three spectacular dunks. An alley-oop dunk by Chris and a fast break reverse dunk by SB. Hoops seems to be winning a lot of support from fans in Accra as many came to the bench of the team to congratulate the boys on their victory. The victory also bring confidence in some of the new players like Ricki Ansong of AUGUSCO who just signup with the team. He was also a great help in the victory. Hoops is expected to play their last game with Yotive on Saturday and will need a big win in order to qualify for the last four. Presently the team is looking forward to the resumption of the league on Aug 15 and a league match against the same Wizards on the 16th. The team is expected to start intensive training at the sports grounds of Prisons Barracks in Cantonment, Accra. In the same group, CEPA won against Police, giving them a third victory in a row in the Cabalan Tournament.  For a complete result of the tournament, click here.

EFF-ESS denies Hoopers of full celebration in WBA League

Aug. 2 2008: Hoopers played their counterparts from the Western Region in the WBA League. The game which was saw Hoopers playing as host to both Frank Motors and EFF-ESS from Takoradi. In the forst match, Hoopers won against Frank Motors 46 to 41. This was a welcome visit as the team earlier in the WBA League lost to Frank Motors in Takoradi. In the second match, EFF-ESS avenged the lost they suffered at home by winning 49 to 46 against Hoopers. The match was a hard fought one as EFF-ESS came from 23-17 at half time to claim victory. In between the  two games a spectacular female match was played between the girls from Takoradi. Their Cape Coast counterparts were not available for the match as top players of the team where in Accra training for the upcoming West African U-16 Basketball Tournament to be held in Benin Republic from the 15 of this month.

Cape Coast Hoops yesterday was defeated by the Braves of CEPS 93 to 61 in the ongoing Cabalan Thome Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Lebanon House, Tudu, Accra. The game was played with a full house as many came to see for the first time Hoops meeting CEPS since the team debut in the Accra metropolitan basketball scene. With both team not underestimating each other,the best from the crop were on display. For Hoops we had, Christopher Angsomwine(6’10-F), Michael Dadson(6’10-F/C), Emmanuel Oware(5’11-SG), Kofi Duodu(6’2-G), Atsu Atakpa(6’8-PF), Anas Ben Anas(6’6-G/F), Saykan Bestman(6’3-G/SF), Kay Nyenuh(6’1-G/SG), Ricki Ahensor(6’2-SG), Anthony Bernard Davies(5’11-SG), John Cooper(6’5-F), Henry Mensah(6’1-G).
