iStand Above donates to Cape Coast Hoops

June 9, 2009

istandaboveThe “iStand Above” campaign is a nonprofit organization that believes in providing opportunities and knowledge to determined young individuals striving to climb the ladder of success.

As part of its objectives a donation was made to the Hoops Basketball CLub after its match against Ghana Fire Service which Hoops won 90-57 retaining its status at the top of the league table.

Tesa Asloso and Halim Musah did the donation on behalf of their organization. Items donated were Interactive Drills Workout Book and Videos CD’s which will go a long way in the developments of the club players and those in the extramural basketball program including children in the Hoops Care International program as well.

We hope and pray other esteem entities out there can emit such kind gesture in helping to improve the game we so love here in Ghana.

Thanks iStand Above and surely you stand above.

Update on Daniel Armah

September 25, 2008

Daniel (left) with team mate.

Things are going well for Daniel. The coach really likes his game and  how hard he plays. He even commented how amazing it is that Daniel  seems to get every rebound and has a fantastic feel for the game. We  are certain Daniel will get alot of playing time and the coach seems excited  about him. “Daniel is working hard and doing well. He is going to need some extra work on our system and defensive ‘stuff’, but he will be fine since he is so determined,” remarked the T-Birds coach.

Daniel Armah spends weekend in Philly

July 21, 2008

Dan was the guest this weekend to Jack Whitehead, Director of International Recruiting, Runhouse.com. He flew in from new York where he is spending the summer holidays with his uncle. Dan was happy to meet Jack who was instrumental in getting him to the USA to play for Casper College in Wyoming. Upon his short visit, Dan was able to meet other dignitaries in Philly and was also interview by a newspaper journalist. The Philly’s Triple Threat, an U14 team run by Mr. Whitehead were the most excited ones to have Dan run the floor with them. The kids took a sudden liken to him and ask for a lot of advices on how they can better their game to play like him. He advised that they take their training seriously and always listen to their coaches instruction. He also told them he was excited to meet them as was his wish since entering the USA in February of this year. The kids promised to be in touch with Dan by email and follow his games once the 2008-2009 collegiate season starts. We too will keep you updated as we follow the journey of this player from Casper to higher heights. Hoops on Fire!!!

Harcum College signs Christopher Angsomwine

July 18, 2008

Hoops remaining twin tower, Christopher Angsomewine will be in the colors of Harcum College this coming season in the USA. The 6’10” power forward/ center is expected to add up to the already power house of the college. Harcum College was chosen from a list of four colleges whom all showed great interest in the player after seeing the video of his last game against Panthers in the Greater Accra Amateur League. In the last two season, Harcum College has signed four players into the Division I NLI most recent being sophomore guard Brandon Smalls who signed National Letter of Intent to play basketball for South Carolina State University next season joining Ryan Bogan (Longwood), Augustine Okosun (Seton Hall) and Jamal Jackson (Morehead St.). Small was an NJCAA Region 19 First-Team selection and helped the Bears to a 26-3 overall record. Chris is the second  successful candidate of the Hoops-Runhouse Project being run by Hoops and Runhouse in scouting young and talented African students and exposing them to coaches in the USA. Daniel Armah was the first successful candidate and is presently sign with Casper College since February of this year. This bring to a total of five players who has been successful so far in getting scholarships to play in the USA through the Hoops Extramural Program. We encourage all ballers out there to make use of this opportunity and show what they have. Send email to contact@capecoasthoops.net or call +233-275986349
